Since Autumn 2015 Quantum Geotechnical has become a well-established company in undertaking ground investigation and geotechnical surveying works on rail property owned and operated by Network Rail. Quantum is a registered Achilles Link-Up Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS) member, fully certified and audited in line with current Rail legislation, and user of the Network Rail Sentinel operating system.
Between September 2015 and December 2016, Quantum’s Ground Investigation department undertook over £350,000 worth of rail contracts located along the South Wales Main Line and the South Wales Valley Line as part of redevelopment, upgrade and maintenance works, as well as in preparation for the electrification of the South Wales main line.
These works involved a variety of ground investigation techniques, from rotary drilling and ground penetration radar through to rope access structural assessment; these were carried out on live tracks and under possession with night works and weekend works. Quantum have over 80% of their operational workforce fully Plant Track Safety (PTS) trained and certified and have a well-established system of work in relation to track safety, working hours and plant reliability; with each being key for completing works under strict timescales.
Over this period Quantum have formed an excellent working relationship with Carillion Rail, and we are continuing to carry out works related to ongoing rail development, particularly along the South Wales Valley Line.
