Scour erosion on a bend of the Afon Gido near New Quay caused a landslip affecting a highway embankment. The landslide resulted in cracking and settlement of a minor road necessitating its closure. Our TEI Hem560 Drill mast mounted on a 21 tonne excavator provided the stability, reach and power to operate from the river channel installing soil nails 6.5m up the embankment. Rock netting was placed and fixed by hand using work positioning harness.
Our solution involved:
- Soil Nailing: Installation of 41 Dywidag R32/210 self drilling soil nails installed with 76mm sacrificial bits using one of our excavator mounted extended TEI Hem550 drilling masts.
- Meshing: Hanging and fixing of 60 sq. metres of Maccaferri rockfall netting.
