Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council commissioned the building of an Alpine-style inclined railway to connect the town centre with the new facilities built on ‘The Works’ former steelworks site, which includes commercial, residential, education and community facilities.
The structure required four piers at elevated positions on a steep embankment. Our TEI Hem560 drill masts mounted on 20 tonne excavators were able to track and traverse on the steep embankment and install self-drilling mini piles at a range of angles and orientations.
The works involved installation of 25 Ischebeck TITAN 40 and 52mm diameter minipiles up to 32m long at angles ranging from vertical to 45 degrees, using our excavator mounted TEI Hem550 drilling mast.
Access was very challenging and the works could not have been completed with conventional drilling plant.
